PRESS RELEASE — PixR3 the new Gexcel imaging software for 3D point clouds extraction from UAV and terrestrial camera images

9th April, 2014, Brescia, Italy_Gexcel Srl, at the 2014 Faro User Meeting (Germany, 3-4 April), has released the new PixR3 software suited to extract 3D colored point clouds and meshes from images.

In step with the path of the latest technologies 3D laser scanning and photogrammetry, Gexcel Srl has released the new PixR3 software (R3 family) to automatically create 3D point clouds and meshes from images taken from terrestrial, mobile or UAV/airborne platforms.

PixR3 can manage limitless images (according to the PC's memory) and extract 3D information thanks to a fully automatic process.

The 3D output (point clouds and meshes) can be easily geo-referenced and further processed into JRC 3D Reconstructor® and PointR3:

PixR3 + JRC 3D Reconstructor® Mining is the perfect solution for volumes evaluation, profiles and contour lines extraction. Color images taken from UAVs and Drone platforms are initially managed by PixR3 to extract colored 3D point clouds. JRC 3D Reconstructor® Mining is later used to merge these data with point clouds coming from lidar or total station/GNSS field measurements. Volumes, cross sections, cut&fill, crests&toes, isolines, etc., can now be easily obtained thanks to the JRC 3D Reconstructor® Mining software package. A greater resolution of the model is assured by the capability of JRC 3D Reconstructor® to use full resolution of the color images. This feature again emphasizes the importance that JRC 3D Reconstructor® gives to the color information, the most powerful tool for detailed geotechnical and geological investigations.

PixR3 + JRC 3D Reconstructor® Heritage/Architectonical can be successfully used in cultural heritage, construction and architectonical projects when the use of laser scanner is not suited or when it is necessary to joint point clouds data coming from images processing or Lidar acquisitions.
